Challenges & Solutions

Supporting a Complex Cold-Chain Environment

The Sydney Fish Market redevelopment required reliable separation between multiple temperature-controlled zones. Maintaining consistent temperatures throughout storage, processing and distribution areas was critical to preserving product quality and supporting day-to-day operations.

BX MAX Door Solutions supplied RapidMax® ISO Chill and ISO Freeze doors specifically designed for demanding cold storage and freezer applications, helping minimise temperature transfer while allowing efficient access for personnel and equipment.

Improving Operational Efficiency

As a high-traffic facility, the Sydney Fish Market requires the continuous movement of products throughout the site. Door systems needed to facilitate fast and reliable access without compromising environmental control.

To achieve this, RapidMax® high-speed doors were integrated with Thermoshutter systems fitted with Variable Speed Drives (VSD). The systems were interlocked to optimise door operation, helping reduce unnecessary opening times while supporting smooth operational flow.

Reducing Energy Loss

Energy efficiency was a key consideration across the redevelopment. Frequent door openings in cold storage environments can result in significant thermal loss and increased operating costs.

The integrated RapidMax® and Thermoshutter solution was designed to minimise energy loss by maintaining separation between controlled environments and reducing the time doors remain open during operation.

Meeting Hygiene Requirements

Food distribution facilities require strict hygiene standards throughout all operational areas. The selected door systems support clean, controlled environments while delivering the reliability required for continuous daily use.

Outcomes

The successful delivery of 68 industrial door systems demonstrates BX MAX Door Solutions’ capability to support major infrastructure and industrial developments across Australia.

The combination of RapidMax® high-speed doors and Thermoshutter systems provides an integrated solution that supports temperature control, operational efficiency and energy performance throughout the facility. The project highlights BX MAX Door Solutions’ expertise in delivering tailored door systems for demanding cold storage, food processing and logistics environments.

As Sharon Emery, General Manager of BX MAX Door Solutions, explains:

“The Sydney Fish Market is a landmark project and it required doors that could perform reliably in demanding cold and freezer conditions. Our role was to supply and install solutions that support strict hygiene standards, thermal efficiency and smooth operations.”
